“Civilization” has existed on Earth for less than 5,500 years.
Through trial and error, we’ve developed a tiny handful of institutions/concepts that, in combination, finally broke through the “nasty/brutish/short” barrier.
The key pillars to civilization are:
–Monogamy
–Free enterprise
–Representative government
–Universal education (reading/writing)
–Scientific method
–Monotheism
Take away any one pillar, and eventually, the whole system falls apart. Now, all six are under attack.
Beginning with the Enlightenment, through the industrial revolution, in fits and starts, this combination was locked in to produce the greatest peace, prosperity and achievements ever seen in human history.
Now, we are throwing it all away in the name of “progress.”
I posted the above as a thread on Twitter (X) this morning. They seem self-evident to me.
I’ll dig a layer deeper:
–Monogamy (not polygamy, polyandry, polycules, hypergamy, etc.)
–Free enterprise.(not communism, socialism, etc.)
–Representative government (not tyranny, democracy, anarchy, monarchy, etc.)
–Universal education for reading/writing
–Scientific method (not consensus)
–Monotheism (not atheism, etc.)
Deeper:
–Monogamy–preserve the nuclear family, avoid incel/femcel problem
–Free enterprise–for poverty relief, economic growth
–Representative government–to preserve the rule of law
–Universal education–reading/writing–needed to keep consenus
–Scientific method–for innovation, preservation of reason and facts
–Monotheism–provides the moral infrastructure
Dilute one of the six, the “secret sauce” is ruined.
