This mid-term election year, Republicans have been handed a big, beautiful, gold-plated wedge issue to use against the left: The idiotic, lunatic practice of allowing “transgender girls/women”, by which we mean boys and men, to compete in girls’ and women’s sports. It’s a perfectly stupid idea, and it runs counter to science, human biology, and common sense.
Now, a new poll reveals that this is a button the GOP needs to push at every opportunity, from now to November.
The majority of voters across the country support state bans on transgender athletes competing in girls’ and women’s sports, according to The Center Square Voters’ Voice Poll.
The Voters’ Voice Poll found that 68% of registered voters support allowing the Supreme Court to uphold state bans on transgender women competing in women’s sports.
Now, to pick a nit here, it’s not a matter of voters “allowing” the Supreme Court to do anything on this, or any other, issue. But we can take from this that a strong majority of American voters are against this practice; if we were to survey people with daughters, it’s a safe bet the majority would be even higher.
Across partisan lines, a clear divide emerged between Republicans and Democrats. About 88% of Republican voters supported upholding state bans on transgender women competing in women’s sports whereas 49% of Democrat voters said the same.
Mike Noble, founder of Noble Predictive Insights, said the debate over transgender athletes is a “wedge issue” where Republicans have an advantage. About 49% of independent voters supported transgender sports bans, with 65% of true independents agreeing on the issue.
“Democrats seem really out of touch with those political folks in the middle of the aisle,” Noble said. “Republicans have been smart to keep going after this because this is a wedge issue for Democrats.”
About 51% of Democrat voters said they would not support the U.S. Supreme Court upholding state bans on transgender women competing in women’s sports. Only about 35% of true independents said the same.
This isn’t any ordinary wedge issue. If this isn’t the greatest wedge issue for the GOP in this year’s crucial midterm elections, then it will do until a bigger one comes along.

Every Republican candidate in every race, from Senate seats to Third Assistant Paper-Pusher, should hammer this issue at every opportunity. Why? Here’s why, and I’m going to tell you: The entire Democratic Party has painted itself into a corner on this issue, and they used paint laced with barbed wire. It’s a wildly unpopular stand, and it becomes less and less popular every time some hulking dude in a woman’s tracksuit blows past every girl on every team to shatter records set by actual women. It’s a stand that erases women. It’s a stand that’s hideously unfair; it’s a stand that is becoming increasingly toxic among the mainstream of Americans, as this poll shows.
I’ve been over the science of this many times, and will probably do so again. But on this, the political side, the advantage is overwhelmingly with the GOP. They need to use it. As often as possible. We have to win these midterms, and this will help us to do that.
Editor’s Note: The 2026 Midterms will determine the fate of President Trump’s America First agenda. Republicans must maintain control of both chambers of Congress.
