President Trump won the 2024 election, decisively, and there can be little doubt that part of that was due to a primary campaign item: Stop illegal immigration, close the borders, deport illegals already in the country.
Now, in Arizona, we have another indicator that President Trump’s efforts are working, as illegal entries into that state from Mexico have plummeted since January 2025, when Trump resumed office.
In President Donald Trump’s first year in office, illegal border crossings in Arizona plummeted to record lows.
They represent roughly a 92% drop from illegal entries and a record number of gotaways reported in Arizona during the Biden administration.
The Biden administration, remember, for four years, did little or nothing to control the border. The numbers show that very plainly:
Under the Trump administration, illegal entries in Arizona this year were 66% less than the total number of gotaways that Border Patrol agents reported in Arizona during the Biden years, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection data and gotaway data exclusively obtained by The Center Square.
In fiscal 2025, 65,813 illegal border crossers were apprehended in Arizona, excluding gotaways, according to CBP data. The fiscal year goes from Oct. 1 through Sept. 30.
That would seem like a lot, especially when you consider that one is one too many. But this is a problem that every nation that has a border with any other, everywhere in the world, has to deal with to some extent or another. And the Biden administration, simply put, didn’t. They let everyone in:
By comparison, more than 775,000 illegal border crossers were reported in fiscal 2023, including nearly 577,000 reported by CBP and nearly 200,000 gotaways that Border Patrol agents reported and exclusively obtained by The Center Square at the time.
Fiscal 2025 apprehensions represent a fraction of those apprehended in previous years, including 564,215 in fiscal 2024, 576,901 in fiscal 2023 and 571,720 in fiscal 2022, according to CBP data.
That’s in Arizona alone. And those are only the ones that were apprehended, and remember, in the Biden years, those people were overwhelmingly given a notice to appear and released into the United States.

This is all good news. It could be better, but it’s pretty good. Add this to the 2 million or so people who have self-deported, and nearly a million repatriated involuntarily, and it’s beginning to look like this mess may just get sorted out.
There’s one problem: The most dangerous people to have entered the country illegally will be the hardest ones to find. We know people have entered the United States from places like Iran, Russia, and China. We know they are here, but we don’t know where. We don’t know what they are planning. We don’t know what they are up to. And if and when they carry out some atrocity, the blame for that will be squarely on the Biden administration’s policy of non-enforcement of the border and non-enforcement of immigration law.
For now, though, the Arizona border is under greater control than it has been for some time, so that’s a win. And, once more, despite what befuddled old Joe Biden may have said, none of this required any new action by Congress. It just required a new president.
Editor’s Note: Thanks to President Trump, illegal immigration into our great country has virtually stopped. Despite the radical left’s lies, new legislation wasn’t needed to secure our border, just a new president.
