(LifeSiteNews) — Joining me on this episode of The John-Henry Westen Show is Dr. Taylor Marshall, Catholic author, podcaster, and theologian. We discussed his latest book, Christian Patriot: 12 Ways to Create One Nation Under God, as well as Pope Leo’s recent audience and photo-op with the heterodox Father James Martin.
I opened the episode by asking Marshall about his new book, which he emphasized is partially meant to steer conservatives in not only the United States but also the entire West back to traditional Catholic political philosophy, the only way to truly conserve our society.
“I think we’re at a point in not just the United States, but in the West, where what is being conservative has failed. And you look at the next four years, eight years, 16 years, like, is it (just) going to continue to be MAGA? What are we trying to do here?” he pondered. “We’re seeing the destruction of marriage and the family. And the reason we’re seeing that is we’re moving away from Christianity. The further away you get from Christianity, the worse your society gets.”

“And so this book provides a crash course in the historical, traditional Christian Catholic political philosophy,” he added. “This goes back to the Church Fathers, Sacred Scripture, Augustine, Thomas Aquinas. What do they teach us? They’ve written thousands of pages on what the state should look like. … It’s a civilization built on the Beatitudes, the beautiful gospel message of Jesus Christ.”
Later in the episode, I asked Marshall about Father James Martin’s recent meeting with Pope Leo XIV, after which the pro-LGBT priest said that the new pontiff would show so-called “LGBTQ Catholics” the same openness as Pope Francis.

Marshall stressed how disappointing and scandalous it was for Pope Leo to take a photo with Martin, a major LGBT advocate, less than a week after the tragic Annunciation Catholic School shooting at the hands of a “trans” shooter.
“When I woke up and saw James Martin’s tweet where he was bragging about meeting with the Pope and he said that Pope Leo will continue the same openness that Pope Francis extended to the ‘LGBTQ community,’ I literally felt like someone uppercutting me to the stomach,” he said. “Because we’ve been trying to be patient, we’ve been trying to be charitable. We’ve been saying, ‘Wait and see, don’t rush, pray for him, pray for the charism of the papacy.”
“And to wake up after all the trauma of last week, of this trans massacre, and to see that the optics are so offensive,” he added.
