Joe Biden has had surgery for skin cancer, his spokesperson has confirmed. Video footage shows the former US President, 82, leaving church with a large scar on his head.
While it is unclear when he had the procedure, the footage was taken at the end of August and Mr Biden’s scar was fresh. His spokesperson Kelly Scully has confirmed that he had Mohs surgery and is now recovering well. The surgery involves cutting away thin layers of skin before they are examined closely for signs of cancer. The process is repeated until there are no signs of cancer. Mr Biden had a basal cell carcinoma, one of the two most common skin cancer types, removed from his chest while in office in 2023. His wife Jill Biden also had two basal cell carcinomas removed from her eye and on her chest in the same year, according to Sky News.
In March, Mr Biden’s office announced that he had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer. The stage-four cancer had spread to his bones.
He said on social media at the time: “Cancer touches us all. Like so many of you, Jill and I have learned that we are strongest in the broken places.”
Meanwhile, his office said he was considering “multiple treatment options” after the diagnosis. They said in a statement: “While this represents a more aggressive form of the disease, the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive which allows for effective management.”
It comes as health concerns soar for current US President Donald Trump. The 79-year-old has been spotted in public with swollen ankles, a severely bruised hand, and other signs that have raised concerns about his cognitive health.
He was pictured on a golf course after a brief “disappearance” and many people were quick to point out that he did not look very healthy.
