WASHINGTON, D.C. (LifeSiteNews) — President Donald Trump, on the morning of the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, posted “Happy Birthday Mary, Queen of Peace!”
Trump’s social media post also included an image of the Queen of Peace statue found in the Basilica of St. Mary Major — Santa Maria Maggiore — in Rome.
The marble statue, commissioned by Pope Benedict XV in thanksgiving for the end of the First World War, is inscribed “Ave Regina Pacis” — “Hail, Queen of Peace.”
The Catholic Church celebrates the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary on September 8, which follows exactly nine months after the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception on December 8.
In last year’s presidential election, 55 percent of U.S. Catholics voted for Trump. In 2020, Trump beat out self-identifying Catholic Joe Biden 50 percent to 49 percent. Between 2020 and 2024, during the Biden administration, seven percent of Catholic voters switched their party affiliation from Democrat to Republican.
