A Sudanese man kidnapped a five-year-old girl from behind her mother’s back before sexually assaulting her in his house, a court has been told.

Mohammed Abdulraziq, 32, was accused of taking the girl and locking her inside his home in Winson Green on March 30.

He was also accused of sexually assaulting her, after the pair were found with the bottom half of their clothing removed to their ankles.

Mr Abdulraziq is currently on trial at Birmingham Crown Court having been arrested by West Midlands police on April 1.

He denied the charges of false imprisonment, false imprisonment with intent to commit a sexual offence, sexual assault and assault.

The court heard that the girl was taken by Mr Abdulraziq while she was playing on the street and her mother’s back was turned, and he brought her to his house.

Jurors were told that when the mother realised what had taken place, she banged on his door and tried to use a piece of wood to smash the window of a downstairs room.

It is also alleged that Mr Abdulraziq punched a neighbour who tried to enter the house through a window before two men successfully broke into the house and rescued the child.

Shortly after, the defendant was arrested as the girl repeatedly told her mother “he hurt me”, the court was told.

LATEST CRIME NEWS IN BRITAIN:

According to Prosecutor Tariq Shakoor, a barefooted Mr Abdulraziq had made a “sly” comment with a “sexual connotation” towards the mother when he had approached her earlier that day.

However, the woman did not understand, as he was speaking another language, and he returned to his home.

The mother had then been talking with a friend, and when she later turned around she could no longer find her daughter, Mr Shakoor added.

The prosecutor said it was at this point that the sound of crying could be heard, and the mother realised her daughter was in the house with the 32-year-old.

Mr Shakoor said: “The defendant is plainly in that room with the child at this time and her mother, in panic, picks up a piece of wood to try and smash the window.

Mr Shakoor said: “She sees her child with the defendant. The defendant was next to a bed, [the girl] was opposite him.

“Her bottoms, described as cycling shorts, are down to her ankles.

“The defendant’s lower clothing was also down to his ankles and the defendant at that stage appears to be bending towards the child, touching her shorts and trying to pull them up.”

The trial continues.
