President Trump announced through his Truth Social account that Charlie Kirk has died, saying:
“The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead. No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie. He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us. Melania and my Sympathies go out to his beautiful wife Erika, and family. Charlie, we love you!”
Charlie Kirk was 31 and is survived by his wife, Erika, and their two children.

The Associated Press is reporting that Charlie Kirk is in critical condition at an undisclosed Utah hospital, and Deseret News has updated its prior reporting to say that a suspect is not in custody.

FBI Director Kash Patel issued the following statement:
“We are closely monitoring reports of the tragic shooting involving Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University. Our thoughts are with Charlie, his loved ones, and everyone affected. Agents will be on the scene quickly and the FBI stands in full support of the ongoing response and investigation.”
President Trump asked the country to pray for Kirk, describing him as “a great guy from top to bottom.”

Minutes before the shooting, Kirk made this X post.
According to Jason Chaffetz, who was in attendance, Kirk had just taken a question on transgender shooters when the shot rang out.

Deseret News reports that, according to an alert from UVU, a suspect is in custody and the campus is on lockdown.
“A single shot was fired on campus toward a visiting speaker. Police are investigating now, suspect in custody,” an alert from UVU said.
Kirk is hospitalized, and his condition is unknown.
