MSNBC PR Issues Rare Statement After Leftist Analyst Seemed to Imply Charlie Kirk Asked to Get Shot – RedState

As RedState reported earlier, absolute depravity was on full display at MSNBC (more so than normal) on Wednesday as the horrifying news broke that Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk had been shot during an event held at Utah Valley University.

Anchor Katy Tur, for instance, couldn’t wait to throw in her derisive personal opinion of Kirk as word of his condition was still unknown, characterizing him as a “divisive figure, polarizing, lightning rod. Whatever term you want to use.”

MSNBC political reporter Allan Smith threw in that “[Kirk] has, you know, he’s been pretty inflammatory in his rhetoric throughout the years, and that’s how he’s been able to build such a huge platform.”

But it was what leftist loon/MSNBC political analyst Matthew Dowd spewed before news of Kirk’s death broke that sparked the most outrage, telling Tur that “[Kirk] is constantly sort of pushing this sort of hate speech, sort of aimed at certain groups. And I always go back to, hateful thoughts lead to hateful words, which often then to hateful actions.”

It was one of the most despicable “her skirt was too short” moments that had ever aired on a cable news network program, and it sparked such a backlash that MSNBC’s public relations department issued a rare public statement of rebuke:

Statement from MSNBC president Rebecca Kutler: “During our breaking news coverage of the shooting of Charlie Kirk, Matthew Dowd made comments that were inappropriate, insensitive and unacceptable. We apologize for his statements, as has he. There is no place for violence in America, political or otherwise.”

It’s unclear if Dowd shared his purported apology on X because his account is locked down. But he did post a statement on leftist social media safe space Bluesky, proclaiming he did not intend to suggest Kirk was to blame for getting shot:

My thoughts & prayers are w/ the family and friends of Charlie Kirk.  On an earlier appearance on MSNBC I was asked a question on the environment we are in.  I apologize for my tone and words.  Let me be clear, I in no way intended for my comments to blame Kirk for this horrendous attack.  Let us all come together and condemn violence of any kind.

As to whether or not that was sincere, I’ll leave that to RedState readers to ponder and discuss.

Regarding MSNBC’s statement, though it fell far short of what many demanded – for Dowd to be fired, it was nevertheless surprising to see from the woke network that has proudly hosted some of the most hateful hosts and commentators in left-wing politics over the years, suggesting that, at least for the time being and considering the circumstances, maybe it was time to tone down the incendiary rhetoric for a change.
