With chillier weather and lengthier evenings drawing near, many shoppers will already be contemplating winter, Christmas, and the New Year. No one enjoys leaving their holiday preparations until the eleventh hour, so it proves tremendously helpful to discover Christmas trading hours for shops as early as possible.
Retailers such as Home Bargains and B&M have previously revealed their Christmas opening and closing schedules, and now Sainsbury’s has confirmed theirs as well. A Sainsbury’s representative informed the Daily Mirror: “The vast majority of supermarkets and convenience stores will open from 6am to 11pm from December 18 – 23.”
They continued: “Supermarkets will be open from 6am to 7pm on Christmas Eve and convenience stores from 6am to 9pm. All stores will be closed on Christmas Day.” reported the Express.
Outlets throughout the UK shut on Christmas Day due to the Christmas Day (Trading) Act 2004.
The legislation prohibits major retailers from trading on the day to enable staff to take time off and mark the occasion with their families. Sainsbury’s additionally confirmed when outlets will resume trading and their schedules.
The representative stated: “On Boxing Day, supermarkets will be open from 9am to 6pm and convenience stores from 9am to 9pm. From December 27-30, stores will operate normal hours.”
A week afterwards, on New Year’s Eve, Sainsbury’s supermarkets will trade from 10am to 7pm and convenience stores from 6am to 9pm.
Trading hours will be marginally reduced on New Year’s Day. Supermarkets will operate from 8am to 8pm, while convenience stores will be open from 9am to 9pm.
Sainsbury’s Petrol filling stations will also see a change in their schedule. They will commence operations 30 minutes prior and conclude 30 minutes post the main store’s timings, except on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve when they will open an hour later.
The spokesperson further stated: “Scotland stores will be open from 8am to 8pm on January 2nd, with convenience stores operating normal hours. Opening hours can vary though, so we advise customers to check our store locator or the latest details for their area: https://stores.sainsburys.co.uk/.”
