Eamonn Holmes is ‘an absolute legend!’ Nana Akua recalls first meeting with GB News host before honouring him with prestigious award

Nana Akua has paid tribute to her GB News colleague Eamonn Holmes, recalling the first time the pair met ahead of presenting him with a special honour at The Icon Awards.

Eamonn was honoured at the awards ceremony with a Lifetime Service Award, presented by Nana herself and taking the breakfast host by complete surprise.

Speaking exclusively to GB News ahead of the ceremony, Nana said: “I’m here because I’m going to present an award to Eamonn Holmes, who I work with on TV.

“He is an absolute legend. When I first properly met Eamonn, he was standing outside the GB News building.

“I saw him and thought, ‘Oh my God, oh my God that is Eamonn Holmes,’ because he didn’t know me.

“But the very first thing he said was, ‘Hi Nana, I’ve been watching your show over the weekend, you do really well with that.’

“And I was like, ‘I must be doing well!’ He really is a legend.

“I’ve worked with him a few times now, and sometimes I have to pinch myself.

“This is someone I watched on TV for so many years, and now I actually get to sit next to him and present shows with him.”

She added: “He’s amazing. Honestly, it feels surreal because I grew up watching him all the time on TV.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:

“Now to be there with someone you idolised for so many years is just incredible.”

The awards ceremony celebrated some of Britain’s biggest Icons and Eamonn’s recognition showed a career spanning decades.

After being presented with the award, Eamonn said: “This is, this is so embarrassing, genuinely, I had no idea that was coming my way.

“I’m sorry I can’t get up. I’m in a wheelchair. This is where I have been for the past couple of years, but the great thing about GB News is that I just have to sit behind a desk and I can still carry out the job that I love, which is excellent.”

“You know, people… I thought they were talking about, ‘Eamonn, you’re a real cult.’ I think that’s what they were saying. I’m not so sure.”

Laughter filled the auditorium before Eamonn continued: “But absolutely amazing.

“I had school friends on that tape. I had two of my brothers there as well, who looked nothing like me. Just, just amazing. So I’m really in a state of shock.”
