Jim Clyburn Reveals When It’s ‘Okay’ for Government to Suppress Free Speech – RedState

Even with the full backing of the mainstream media, it has become increasingly difficult for Democrats over the last decade or so to keep their masks in place when talking about the issues America faces, something we’ve seen play out over the past week or so amid the debate over the suspension of late-night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel.

Almost immediately, they jumped on the “free speech” talking point well before FCC Chairman Brendan Carr hinted that action might be forthcoming if ABC didn’t take action in response to Kimmel falsely portraying conservative icon Charlie Kirk’s alleged assassin as part of the “MAGA gang.”

Though Carr took no action ahead of Kimmel’s reinstatement and Tuesday night return, the “f” word – fascism – also played a starring role in the debate, with leftists conveniently “forgetting” about the actual fascism that took place under the Biden-Harris administration when it came to successful efforts to suppress First Amendment rights on social media platforms like Facebook during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Interestingly, that comparison was brought up during a Tuesday interview on CNN with former House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn (D-SC), a staunch ally of former President Joe Biden’s, who was asked if conservatives had a point in bringing up recent admissions by Google in the context of the national conversation surrounding Kimmel.

Giving away the game, Clyburn suggested that the two weren’t remotely comparable because in Kimmel’s case, we were talking about “jokes,” whereas the Biden-Harris administration was allegedly doing it in the interest of public health or something:

[CNN anchor Abby] Phillip: …there was a letter from Google, parent company, Alphabet, that said that the Biden administration conducted repeated and sustained outreach and pressed the company to remove information around COVID that they thought was disinformation. So, they’re alleging that in a new letter, even though they didn’t do it at the time. What do you make of the argument that those two things are the same?

Clyburn: Well, I don’t think they’re the same, simply because Biden, if any of this took place, these weren’t jokes. This wasn’t a T.V. show. This was a pandemic. And we didn’t need to have misinformation going out about this pandemic. There was enough coming from the president at the time. What, put Clorox in your veins? That’s the kind of foolishness the Biden administration was trying to, let’s just say, oppose.

Watch:

Got that? It’s okay when they do it because they are supposedly doing it for the “right” reasons. Statements like these are among those that should not be forgotten anytime Democrats yell about alleged “fascism” coming from Republicans.

That said, there is one area where I agree with Clyburn: The two situations, Kimmel’s suspension and the coordinated suppression of free speech under Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, are not comparable.

Why? Because in Kimmel’s case, his right to speak his mind wasn’t suppressed by the government. Even in being suspended by ABC, he still had large platforms he could use to express his opinions.

That wasn’t the case for dissenting voices under the Biden-Harris administration, many of whom were treated as heretics and forcibly ostracized from social media under pressure from the Biden-Harris regime for the crime of questioning the government’s pandemic policies and for speculating as to the origins of the virus.

Once again, Democrats are telling us who they really are, and we should believe them.
