Donald Trump has been mocked over his anger at a faulty lift hindering his entrance into the United Nations General Assembly yesterday. Gavin Newsom, the governor of California and widely believed to be a frontrunner for the Democratic nomination for president in 2028, continued his ongoing trolling of the US leader, telling his 612,000 followers on X that the incident left the entire world laughing.
The White House has said it will launch an investigation into the incident, with press secretary Karoline Leavitt claiming that the US president was the victim of sabotage. A teleprompter being read by Trump as he delivered his speech in front of world leaders also stopped working, fuelling speculation that the incidents were not a coincidence or accident. Newsom took to X to mock the president by imitating Trump’s trademark use of capital letters when posting on social media.
He said: “DOZY DON WAS DEFEATED BY THE ESCALATOR, POOR GUY! THE ENTIRE WORLD IS LAUGHING AT THE LOW IQ “PRESIDENT.”
“NEXT STOP: THE BEST ROOM AT MEMORY MEADOWS RETIREMENT RESORT. TYLENOL INCLUDED. ENJOY YOUR STAY, DON! — GCN.”
The US president could be seen looking confused yesterday as an escalator stopped working as he and the First Lady went to use it as they arrived at the United Nations General Assembly.
The incident left Trump visibly annoyed and has prompted close members of his administration to call for answers amid rumours that the malfunction was not accidental.
Karoline Leavitt, the White House press secretary, called for the firing and investigation of those responsible after reports emerged in the Sunday Times that staff had joked about switching off the escalator.
She said: “If someone at the UN intentionally stopped the escalator as the President and First Lady were stepping on, they need to be fired and investigated immediately.”
When asked whether the malfunction could have been deliberate, she replied: “That’s definitely what it appears to be to me.
“There’s was some concerning reporting over the weekend from the London Times… that U.N. globalist staffers were basically plotting to set up the President of the United States.
“If we find that these were U.N. staffers who were purposefully trying to trip up, literally trip up the president and the first lady of the United States, well there better be accountability for those people”
