Suspected Charlie Kirk Shooter Went Back to Get ‘Grandpa’s Rifle,’ but Encountered Police – RedState

The suspected assassin of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk went back to recover his rifle that he threw into the woods near the campus of Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah, on September 10, where he was met by law enforcement, which apparently thwarted his recovery of the rifle, according to a new report.

Six hours after an assassin’s bullet took the life of Kirk, the person suspected of killing him, Tyler Robinson, reportedly “made contact” with a police officer near where investigators reportedly recovered the alleged weapon, per law enforcement sources, Fox News reported.

The report read:

The officer was guarding the perimeter after authorities placed the campus on lockdown, and the encounter appears to have thwarted the suspect’s attempt to recover the Mauser .30-06 rifle prosecutors allege was used to kill Kirk.

Prosecutors released excerpts from a text message conversation they say Robinson had with his roommate and romantic partner, Lance Twiggs, that occurred at an unspecified time on the evening of September 10, in which Robinson allegedly discussed wanting to retrieve a rifle before returning home from Orem, which is about a four-hour drive from where he lived in Washington County.

DA Reveals Mother’s Remarks About Tyler Robinson’s Politics, Damning Texts With Boyfriend

As my RedState colleague Nick Arama reported, after Robinson’s arrest, authorities revealed a string of text messages between Robinson and his trans-identifying male boyfriend, specifically dealing with the alleged weapon used to kill Kirk.

Here’s some of that messaging she reported:

He confessed that he did it because “some hate can’t be negotiated out.” He said if he could grab his rifle, he would have “left no evidence,” but was fretting that he couldn’t get to it to retrieve it. He said he’d been planning it for a bit over a week and was worried about what his father would do if he didn’t bring back “Grandpa’s rifle.”

And the Fox News report linked above continued, while also mentioning the family’s gun:

Later in the conversation, he allegedly reiterated that he was looking for a chance to grab the rifle: “There is a squad car parked right by it. I think they already swept that spot, but I don’t wanna chance it.”

Eventually, he allegedly wrote that, “I’m wishing I had circled back and grabbed it as soon as I got to my vehicle… I’m worried what my old man would do if I didn’t bring back grandpas (sic) rifle.”

Thank God for the incredible work by law enforcement to find Kirk’s suspected killer, who now faces numerous charges, including aggravated murder. This is a developing story. RedState will provide updates as warranted.
