Whoever came up with this idea deserves a medal. I’d write up a recommendation myself, once I stop laughing.
Greta Thunberg’s latest effort, the Selfie Flotilla, has been beset with problems. They were delayed from leaving Spain by bad weather. They experienced possible explosive drone attacks, far enough away to rattle them but doing no damage. They are facing an Israeli blockade of Gaza.
And now, someone has come up with a psychological warfare tool to use against the Thunbergers that’s belly-laugh-inducing: They have hacked the flotilla’s radios and are blasting ABBA music through them.

Greta Thunberg and other activists were tortured with nonstop ABBA songs pumping from their hacked radio as their flotilla sailed from Greece in an attempt to deliver aid to Gaza.
The Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) slammed what it called the “psychological” attacks it endured when its communications got “jammed” as it sailed overnight Thursday.
The group also said it spotted “at least 13 explosions” around the flotilla of 10 vessels, which set sail from Spain on Sept. 1.
Footage of the assault, uploaded by activist Yasemin Acar, showed how the ships’ radios were hacked during the attack to play ABBA, a clear jab at Thunberg, who, like the music group, hails from Sweden.

Now, I’m pretty sure subjecting someone to a blast of ABBA music constitutes a war crime, or cruel and unusual punishment at the very least. (Hint: You’ll never see ABBA featured in one of my Friday music posts.) But the humor aspect of this overrides the war crime aspect. ABBA is a Swedish band, which explains the selection, and I’m pretty sure that the World Health Organization has placed a warning on ABBA’s music, to the effect that prolonged exposure can cause brain damage.
If that’s true, then the ABBA brain damage will find itself facing some pretty small targets this time.
The Thunbergistas are sounding a defiant tone.
“We are witnessing these psychological operations first-hand, right now, but we will not be intimidated,” the GSF said in a statement.
Thunberg slammed the alleged drone strikes as a “scare tactic” aimed at intimidating the activists, who are aiming to break Israel’s naval blockade to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza using civilian boats operated by citizens from 44 nations.
“The most important thing isn’t that we were hit by drones,” Thunberg said. “Drones are something that Palestinians experience 24-7.”
Acar likened the assault to “a battlefield,” adding that the ships could not even reach out to the Coast Guard because of the jamming.
It’s likely that Yasemin Acar wouldn’t know a real battlefield if he were dragged through one face-down and feet-first. And the drone assaults could have been serious, instead of being intended to annoy and keep the Thunbergatarians awake.
This whole misadventure seems to be beset with incompetence. Although the idea of taking a “queer activist” along on a mission to deliver goods to radical Islamic fundamentalists is the real show-stopper.

It’s growing less and less likely to make it to Gaza. Eventually, they’ll likely give up and go home. As far as the ABBA angle goes, well, it’s only a war crime if you lose.
