(LifeSiteNews) – A Canadian pro-life advocate is hopeful that famed Canadian kids’ author Robert Munsch will not end up dying by euthanasia because he has received an “outpouring” of appreciation for his “life.”
“There’s a good chance that Robert Munsch will not actually die by euthanasia. Since announcing his intention to do so, he’s received an outpouring of support and appreciation for his life,” wrote Amanda Achtman, who runs dyingtomeetyou.com.
“If he doesn’t die by MAID, will @katieengelhart tell the world in the @nytimes?
In he X post, Acttman referenced New York Times reporter Katie Engelhart, who broke the news earlier this month that Munsch, who is 80 years old, has not only chosen to die by medical assistance in dying (MAID), a euphemism for assisted suicide, but was approved for the procedure thanks to Canada’s lax assisted suicide laws. Munsch noted that he has been diagnosed with dementia.
In a subsequent posting on X, Achtman shared a social media post from one of Munsch’s daughters, writing, “According to Robert Munsch’s daughter three days ago, ‘Our Papa is alive and well, and we’re going to Costco.’”
Achtman wrote, “Don’t euthanize him!”
Achtman’s organization, dyingtomeetyou.com, promotes life through a “project of cultural renewal to humanize our conversation on suffering, death, meaning.”
As reported by LifeSiteNews, Campaign Life Coalition’s (CLC) Jack Fonseca said Canadians should “pray” that someone “close” to Munsch might be able to “persuade” him not to go ahead with a planned death by state-sanctioned euthanasia.
As also reported by LifeSiteNews, CLC had earlier warned that Munsch’s planned death by lethal injection is a “sad and tragic” type of “wake-up” call for the nation and shows just how “reckless” and easy it is for anyone to be approved to die by the grim procedure.
While Munsch was born in the United States, he moved to Canada in 1975 and quickly became a best-selling kids’ book author. At one point in his life, it was reported that he even considered the Catholic priesthood.
Assisted suicide was legalized by the Liberal government of former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in 2016.
Under the current law, assisted suicide is prohibited for minors and the mentally ill. Activists, however, have been pushing for these expansions with varying degrees of success.
Euthanasia is the sixth-highest cause of death in Canada, but it was not listed in Statistics Canada’s top 10 leading causes of death from 2019 to 2022.
