(LifeSiteNews) — Jordan Peterson’s daughter, Mikhaila Peterson, asked for prayers for her father amid his debilitating neurological health issues.
The famous psychologist and author, who was propelled to fame after he opposed a Canadian law compelling speech recognizing preferred gender pronouns, has been hospitalized and forced to cancel speaking engagements indefinitely.
Mikhaila shared in a video update on Saturday that her father has been suffering for the past few years from neurological symptoms, including neuropathy and weakness, that worsened this past summer. She believes the symptoms stem from chronic inflammatory response syndrome, CIRS, “due to decades of mold exposure.”
Hey, as you know @jordanbpeterson has been really sick. A lot of people have been asking for updates so here’s one. He’s recovering slowly day by day but I won’t lie, it’s slow and scary. He won’t be back for another few months at least, probably longer. We’re not entirely sure… pic.twitter.com/wmS5Wy2tg8

On top of these issues, Peterson had pneumonia and sepsis this summer, and following the pneumonia, was diagnosed with critical illness polyneuropathy, a kind of nerve damage that afflicts critically ill patients.
“That’s been heartbreaking and brutal on top of everything else,” Mikhaila lamented. She shared that she hadn’t been able to communicate with him during the month of September, when he was in an intensive care unit.
In an earlier social media post, Mikhaila explained that CIRS is “due to a genetic predisposition that causes the immune system to have an inability to identify and detoxify mold/bacteria in indoor air,” which occurs in about 25% of people but is severe in Peterson’s case.
His other health issues, “severe allergies and severe food sensitivities” have also been due to CIRS, according to Mikhaila, who herself has suffered from health issues due to toxic mold exposure.
“We don’t have a better explanation for his neurological symptoms at the moment other than spiritual attacks,” Mikhaila said.
She shared how within a three-hour span this summer that her newborn baby girl Audrey “almost died of heart failure,” her father was taken by ambulance to the hospital, and her newborn “turned blue (again) at home for a different reason, not heart related, and went (to) a different hospital by ambulance.”
“It’s been one thing after another in an otherworldly type of way,” Mikhaila wrote.
“In the meantime, we’ll be going full force with @petersonacademy, and keeping his message across his brand alive while he recovers. Not letting demons get in the way of that.”
Peterson Academy, co-founded by Jordan, is an affordable online college education designed to serve as an alternative to what Peterson has suggested are ideologically compromised universities. Peterson has described himself as a classical liberal, and despite his heavy focus on Scriptural exegesis during his career, he is not a Christian, or even has a firm belief in God, though he “tries to live as though God is real.”
His wife, Tammy, is a Catholic convert. Her conversion occurred after a miraculous recovery from a cancer with a terminal prognosis, a healing that she attributed to God’s intervention.
