CALGARY, Alberta (LifeSiteNews) – One of Canada’s largest western cities revealed that it has spent $35,000 to date on employee benefits for “gender affirmation services” or transgender surgeries for gender-confused people.
Records show that 0.1 percent of the City of Calgary’s employees’ benefits claims so far in 2025 have gone to gender-confused people for the purpose of trying to emulate a sex other than their birth sex.
As reported by the Western Standard, city officials informed them that the $35,000 does not include drugs such as hormone blockers covered by a health benefit plan.
The funding for “gender” care is “available to its plan members,” the city says, who must be diagnosed with gender dysphoria by either a nurse or doctor. The total available amount is $50,000 for life.
The city would not say how many employees used the funding because it was fewer than 10 people.
Looking at what the city said it would cover, as per its benefits package, it reads:
“Foundation (core) – Transition-related genital and chest/breast surgeries not covered by your provincial/territorial health plan, as well as vocal surgery, tracheal shave, chest contouring/breast construction, vaginal dilators, laser hair removal, and facial feminization surgery.”
Also covered are “Focused – Non-genital, non-breast/chest enhancement surgeries as follows: nose surgery, liposuction/lipofilling, face/eyelid lift, lip/cheek fillers, hair transplant/implants, and gluteal lifts/implants.”
Evidence shows that persons who undergo so-called “gender transitioning” procedures are more likely to commit suicide than those who are not given such irreversible surgeries. In addition to catering to a false reality that one’s sex can be changed, transgender surgeries and drugs have been linked to permanent physical and psychological damage, including cardiovascular diseases, loss of bone density, cancer, strokes, and blood clots, and infertility.
Meanwhile, a study on the side effects of “sex change” surgeries discovered that 81 percent of those who have undergone them in the past five years reported experiencing pain simply from normal movements in the weeks and months that followed, among many other negative side effects.
Alberta’s Conservative government under Premier Danielle Smith has in place a new policy protecting female athletes from gender-confused men that has taken effect across the province.
As LifeSiteNews previously reported, Smith’s government is currently fighting a court order blocking the province’s newly passed ban on transgender surgeries and drugs for children.
Albertans will be voting on October 20 in municipal elections. As reported by LifeSiteNews, anti-freedom Calgary Mayor Jyoti Gondek has promoted pro-abortion policies as well as a woke pro-LGBT agenda.
