Nobel Peace Prize winner speaks

I meant no disrespect to 2025 Nobel Peace Prize winner María Corina Machado in asking “Whodat???” this morning. I meant to be funny, courtesy of John Updike. As the leader of the Venezuelan opposition, she is one brave lady. She is also an outspoken supporter of President Trump, whom she describes him as the “biggest opportunity we’ve ever had” for regime change in Venezuela.

She has also called Trump “courageous” and a “visionary” for his policies toward her country, praising his administration’s efforts to isolate President Nicolás Maduro diplomatically and economically while advocating for democratic reforms.

The quotes above are via Newsweek, which has reached out the U.S. State department and Venezuela’s Foreign Ministry for comment. My comment is I’ll drink to that.

The New York Post tracked her down in her Venezuelan hiding place for a statement. She told the Post: “This immense recognition of the struggle of all Venezuelans is an impetus to conclude our task: to conquer Freedom.”

“We are on the threshold of victory and today more than ever we count on President Trump, the people of the United States, the peoples of Latin America, and the democratic nations of the world as our main allies to achieve Freedom and democracy,” she added.
