Husband of woman filmed cutting down memorial ribbons claims she was ‘attacked by Mossad’

The Palestinian husband of a woman filmed slashing yellow ribbons from an October 7 memorial in London has claimed the couple were attacked by a gang “probably working for Mossad”.

On Monday, PhD researcher Nadia Yahlom, 36, was caught on camera using scissors to remove the ribbons from a fence near a synagogue in Muswell Hill, north London.

After being confronted, Ms Yahlom said the memorial honouring victims of Hamas’ October 7 terror attacks in Israel was “condoning genocide”.

The yellow ribbons are associated with the Bring Them Home movement, which campaigns for hostages held captive in Gaza to be re-united with their families.

The 36-year-old attended a police station voluntarily on Tuesday for questioning under caution as officers investigated the incident as both racially-motivated criminal damage and a public order offence.

Now, Ms Yahlom’s Palestinian actor husband, Mo’min Swaitat, has claimed he and his wife were “attacked by an extremist group probably working for Mossad in our neighbourhood in north London”.

Mr Swaitat arrived in Britain in 2011 from the West Bank after winning a scholarship to study clowning and mime at the now defunct London International School for Performing Art.

After his wife was filmed cutting down the memorial, the Palestinian wrote on Instagram that “we have been attacked and stranded to be killed.”

Ms Yalom’s mother told The Times that her family was forced to contact the police after her daughter had been “pounded by death threats” since the incident.

The mother told the newspaper: “There has been a lot of lies and terrible misrepresentations … she did not say lots of the things she was supposed to have said.

“There is a difference between snipping down [the ribbons] and hounding people with death threats endlessly and her six-year-old daughter. What kind of people are they?

“What’s gone on is pretty horrible and lots of lies have gone on.”

On social media, Mr Swaitat previously wrote that his life in the West Bank had been “ruined by this group of criminal European and Arabs who came together to be the military colonial settler state”.

He also affirmed that he does not “believe in living together with this people in harmony and equality and equal rights or sharing with them my landscape or inheriting that they have stolen anyway”.

The Palestinian also called Israel a “white superman” state, adding that he does not want it “to exist in its form now”.

Speaking to GB News, journalist Miranda Levy said she was “overtaken by cold fury” after seeing the woman cut down the yellow ribbons commemorating October 7 victims.

Ms Levy told the People’s Channel: “Just days after the Yom Kippur murders in Manchester. I couldn’t help but take my phone out. I was overtaken by this kind of cold fury.

“I just had to ask: what are you doing? And what’s happened since? Of course, there’s been no apology.

“No acceptance that what she did was grossly offensive not only to me, or to the people in that community in north London, but to the entire Jewish community around the world.”

Ms Yalom’s taxpayer-funded research at the University of Westminster examines “hauntedness, supernatural life” in Palestine.

After the incident, the university said “there is no place for any form of discrimination” at the institution.
