Princess Kate appeared to send a message to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle with her outfit, according to an expert. The Princess of Wales recently sported the same look twice while attending engagements.
Kate first visited two mills in Kent and Suffolk in September, while a couple of weeks later, in October, she headed to RAF Coningsby Air Base, sporting the same suit. The item of clothing in question is a grey suit by Bella Freud in the Prince of Wales check, which she first paired with a black top underneath, while on the second engagement, she opted for a grey Alexander McQueen fine knit top. A fashion expert has claimed that Kate’s sartorial choice, which during the first instance took place around the same time as the Duke of Sussex’s visit to the UK, carried a “hidden message” for him and his wife.
Fashion specialist Laura Craig told the Daily Mail: “Since nothing in Kate’s wardrobe is ever worn by accident, it’s hard not to question her design – and timing – in choosing to wear such a coded and patriotic fabric as the Prince of Wales check.
“Smart as it is, it’s often avoided by those on public duties due to the fact that the checks don’t always photograph well, and can appear blurry. Clearly, this was of less concern than the message it conveyed.
“The message being: here stand the real bastions of the British Royal Family, in all their stalwart dedication to king and country.
“Any other pretenders can get back in their box – or on a plane to Montecito.”
Meanwhile, while royal fans were glad to see the princess wear the suit again, some did not like her decision.
One user wrote on Instagram: “She just wore this suit a couple of weeks ago. Please do repeat but not in such quick succession when you have other suits and dresses you could wear. Plus the gray jumper with the grey suit doesn’t really work. “
Another one had a similar opinion: “The suit itself is not nice enough for it to have been repeated twice in a month.”
Others were not big fans of the grey on grey styling, with one user saying: “I’m not so sure about the outfit. The gray + gray combo looks a bit boring a white shirt would have been nice.”
