If Meghan Markle is a ‘humanitarian’ then I’m Gandhi | Personal Finance | Finance

A new humanitarian has been crowned, one whose glorious achievements leave all historical rivals in the shade. Her name? Do you need to ask? It is of course the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle.

Last week, she was finally rewarded for all the thoughtful, selfless and inspiring things she’s done for humankind. At a gala dinner in New York, Meghan was voted Humanitarian of the Year for her work at the Archewell Foundation on mental health, online safety and the damage social media does to children.

Technically, it was Humanitarians of the Year, as she had to share it with some bloke called Harry. But we all know the magic was hers.

Lesser humanitarians face torture, prison or even death for their beliefs, but Meghan has no time for that. She achieves just as much while gliding into a ballroom in a borrowed frock or sprinkling flowers on muffins in a friend’s kitchen.

If that doesn’t deserve a plaque, I don’t know what does.

Express readers will, I’m sure, join me in offering their humble gratitude for her “leadership and generosity”, which has made such a “profound difference in the lives of so many”, according to Project Healthy minds.

The Royal household will surely echo that, given the profound difference Meghan made to their lives.

Hey, but I’ve done my bit for humanity too. Only yesterday, I told my teenage son to get off TikTok and eat his broccoli. If that’s not tackling online harms, I don’t know what is.

Later the same night, I promoted digital safety by ordering him to stop playing off FIFA 2025 and go to bed. Where’s my gong?

If Meghan Markle is a humanitarian, then I’m Gandhi, King and Mandela rolled into one, with a dash of Mother Teresa. Maybe I should put out a press release.

Donald Trump’s efforts are also going unrecognised. He’s miffed because he wasn’t awarded the Nobel peace prize, despite “bringing peace” to Gaza and ending another eight wars at last count, some of which haven’t even been fought yet.

Trump no doubt hopes for recognition next year, but shouldn’t get his hopes up. There can only be one winner. She’s already got one humanitarian trophy. Surely it’s time Meghan Markle scooped her Nobel Peace Prize too.

Frankly, I’m amazed she hasn’t received it already. It will happen, I’m sure of it. Unless the world comes to its senses and recognises people for what they do, rather than the vain, phoney, self-serving rubbish that spouts out of their mouths. Sadly, we’ll need the patience of Gandhi while we wait for that day.
