Iowa superintendent detained by ICE falsely claimed he was a US citizen, indictment says.
A federal grand jury in southern Iowa returned a two-count indictment against Ian Roberts, the Guyana citizen and former superintendent of the Des Moines public school system.

A two-count indictment returned Thursday evening by a federal grand jury in Des Moines charges Ian Roberts with one count of making a false statement for employment and one count of being an illegal alien in possession of a firearm.
According to federal court filings, the gun was found inside Roberts’ official state-of-Iowa-issued Jeep Cherokee.
The gun was loaded. More guns were found at Roberts’ home, for a total of four, not to mention the ammunition.
The false citizenship claim occurred on his I-9 form, submitted as part of the Des Moines superintendent job application. Roberts has never been a U.S. citizen.
His next c0urt appearance is for a formal arraignment, scheduled for October 22.
