Meghan Markle cried at a charity tennis event to commemorate her friend’s late son. The Duchess and Prince Harry attended the annual George Zajfen Tennis Tournament in support of the Alliance of Moms, a community that supports young mothers. The alliance was co-founded by Kelly McKee Zajfen, who, with her family, remembered young George, who died suddenly in 2022 at the age of nine after contracting a viral illness.
The Duchess of Sussex posted a video on Instagram from the afternoon, showing her in an emotional state as she listened to Kelly’s speech in remembrance of her son. Prince Harry stood by her stoically in support. The Duchess, 44, shared highlights from the tennis tournament on Instagram, including a photo of her chatting with host Kelly, a friend of more than 20 years who lives nearby in California.
Meghan and Kelly enjoyed a warm reunion, following a heartfelt post the Duchess’s close friend recently shared about her.
Kelly, a former model who first met Meghan through her ex-husband Trevor Engelson, was asked to name her favourite social media accounts. She placed the Duchess’s personal Instagram, @meghan, in third position, describing herself as “endlessly inspired” by her.
A second question read: “How did you meet Meghan M?! Love seeing you two on here and the joy you bring out in each other.”
Highlighting a close friendship over many years, Kelly wrote: “Ahh thank you! I’ve actually known her for almost 20 years? She even came to my wedding (15 years ago) and she’s been the most amazing, nurturing, fun, loving human.
“She’s been by my side especially since Georgie died and I cherish our friendship very much.”
A later Instagram story showed Harry, 41, giving his daughter Lillibet, four, a big hug and smiling to the camera, with the caption, “Our other favorite Lily”.
At the tournament, Meghan wore a sleeveless white belted midi dress with black buttons. She matched them with some dark brown flip flops and a cream handbag with tan leather handles.
