Shoppers can now pick up clinical-grade health tests alongside their weekly groceries, as Tesco becomes the first UK supermarket to stock lab-verified testing kits nationwide.
In partnership with Newfoundland Diagnostics, the retailer has launched professional medical tests for fertility, testosterone, and diabetes, bringing NHS-standard diagnostics to the high street. Each kit costs £40 and promises results within 48 hours.
All tests undergo processing in laboratories backed by the NHS, with UK-registered doctors reviewing every result.
“The partnership is designed to remove barriers, build awareness, and encourage more proactive management of common health concerns such as hormone balance, fertility and blood sugar levels,” the supermarket stated.
It’s a game-changer for millions who want to monitor their health without booking GP appointments.
And it comes at an excellent time, as the NHS faces continued pressure and longer wait times.
Three different tests have now hit Tesco shelves, each targeting common health concerns.
The testosterone test measures hormone levels in men, while the fertility test checks AMH levels to help women understand their ovarian reserve.
The diabetes test monitors average blood glucose over recent months.

Simple to carry out, customers take a blood sample at home, send it off, and get their results back within 48 hours.
Samples go to NHS-backed laboratories where they’re analysed with “the same accuracy and confidentiality as clinical tests”, Tesco assured shoppers.
The tests come with clear instructions for taking blood samples at home, plus real-time tracking so customers know exactly when their results are ready.
The nationwide roll-out spans 380 stores, putting preventative healthcare within reach of millions.

GETTY IMAGESWith 4,000 units of each test type already shipped to stores, shoppers across Britain can now take charge of monitoring hormone levels, fertility or diabetes risk.
“It means customers no longer need to search online or wait for GP appointments to take simple steps toward understanding their health,” the supermarket stated.
The partnership removes traditional barriers that stop people from getting tested, whether that’s time, cost, or simply not knowing where to start.
Co-founder of Newfoundland Diagnostics, Frederick Manduca, commented: “This marks an exciting time for the brand and UK consumers, as we continue to make self-diagnostics easily accessible and offer a solution to preventative care, acknowledging a healthcare system that’s being continually pushed to its limits.
Fellow co-founder, Michael Hodnett, added: “With an estimated 5.8million people in the UK living with diabetes and plenty more going undiagnosed, these tests play a crucial role in early detection and management, while testosterone testing and women’s fertility evaluations are essential, offering valuable insights that can (if necessary) guide effective treatment plans and improve overall well-being.”
The announcement comes just weeks after the supermarket bolstered its in-store experience with an “enhanced” accessibility feature.
In a brand-new partnership with Be My Eyes, the supermarket hopes to support customers with sight loss.
The two have committed to a six-month pilot collaboration in which on-demand assistance is provided to visually impaired shoppers, allowing them to access immediate support through their smartphones.
