‘Undesirable’ Andrew saga could continue ‘for years’, royal expert warns | Royal | News

This is because the former prince is likely to continue being entangled in scandals surrounding his previous friendship with the late convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein, which has ultimately put him in the situation he finds himself in today. This is despite the fact Andrew, 65, has always denied all accusations against him.

Speaking about how such scandals could continue making news for “years”, royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams said that while the action against Andrew by the King has provided “some respite”, it is not the end of the Andrew saga.

Mr Fitzwilliams exclusively told Express.co.uk: “This (the King’s actions) won’t stop the headlines, but it should provide some respite for the institution of monarchy, which is so pivotal as a symbol of national unity in a time of such political certainty.

“The King has acted more forcibly than he was expected to but the scandals involving the Yorks goes back many years.”

He continued: “Each step in this undesirable saga will still be worldwide news in future months and even years.”

The full Buckingham Palace statement on October 30 read: “”His Majesty has today initiated a formal process to remove the Style, Titles and Honours of Prince Andrew.

Prince Andrew will now be known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor. His lease on Royal Lodge has, to date, provided him with legal protection to continue in residence. Formal notice has now been served to surrender the lease and he will move to alternative private accommodation. These censures are deemed necessary, notwithstanding the fact that he continues to deny the allegations against him.

“Their Majesties wish to make clear that their thoughts and utmost sympathies have been, and will remain with, the victims and survivors of any and all forms of abuse.”
