Two lanes were closed on the M11 southbound in Essex between Junction 7 and Junction 6 after a crash during rush hour on Monday evening.
Essex Police attended the scene and there has been no update on the collision.
Traffic was passing in one lane, with motorists encouraged to allow extra time amid delays of 90 minutes.
At 6.40pm, National Highways announced all lanes on the stretch of road near the M25 were now open.
It warned of 45-minute delays but said this was “starting to ease”.
