Post Office hero Alan Bates agrees multi-million pound settlement over Horizon scandal

Sir Alan Bates has reached a multi-million pound settlement after his claim on the Post Office Horizon scandal.

His campaign surpassed 20 years, after more than 900 sub-postmasters were prosecuted between 1999 and 2015 due to a faulty software system.

The Government has now agreed a deal with Mr Bates from his latest claim in the spring, one that he had previously said was less than 50 per cent of the originally proposed sum, according to Sky News.

One source claims that the sum is in the region of £4million and £5million.

A government spokesperson said: “We pay tribute to Sir Alan Bates for his long record of campaigning on behalf of victims and have now paid out over £1.2bn to more than 9,000 victims.

“We can confirm that Sir Alan’s claim has reached the end of the scheme process and been settled.”
