God can repair even the most broken of marriages: here’s how

(LifeSiteNews) — Joining me on this episode of The John-Henry Westen Show is Dr. Christine Bacon, an author, speaker, and host of the podcast “Breakfast with Bacon.” We discussed her “Standing for Marriage” services, how God has used her to save countless marriages, including her own, and more.

I opened the episode by asking Bacon how her “Standing” ministry began. She explained that after she had left her husband and was earning her doctoral degree, she became curious if there was a formula that made certain couples “extremely happy” with their marriage.

This led her to interview these “super couples,” and by the grace of God she soon realized that there was a “SACRED” formula for this “extreme happiness” in marriage. The formula inspired her book, The Super Couple, and helped her repair her own marriage, which is now in its 42nd year.

“There absolutely was a formula. I praised God, the formula, and now here’s the connection with sacred, S-A-C-R-E-D, that’s why we’re the sacred standers,” she said. “Sacred: selflessness, attentiveness, communication, respect, encouragement, deliberateness (SACRED). It not only covered intact marriages, it covered marriages that were broken apart as well, if you want to win your spouse back.”

“As I was finishing up that book … my marriage was getting (better) because we practiced the SACRED formula,” she added.

Bacon told me how, inspired by the Lord, she began talking to people with broken marriages at her church, which led to the birth of her “Standing for Marriage” service, where she encouraged people to want to reconcile with their spouses, even if their spouse wasn’t interested. This soon led to monthly meetings in her living room with these parishioners, which continued to expand.

“(Standing for Marriage) was growing… People … had this desire, this need inside their souls. ‘I need someone (to) understand what I’m going through.’ And we were that community,” she said. “Then COVID hit, (and) I had to find Zoom, and God exploded it. And we are now over 500 people from every state and 10 countries.”

Bacon then stressed, as she has with the “Standers,” that spouses in a seemingly irreconcilable marriage ultimately need to want to repair their marriages. Perhaps even more challenging, they have to continue standing with God if their spouse never comes back.

“We have to get to the point, and this is what the Lord has given me … the phrase I say to them is, ‘If your spouse never comes back, are you still going to stand? Are you still going to choose God?’” she said. “And when we get to that point, that’s when we are fully surrendered. We are finally like, ‘I am a stander, regardless of the outcome.’”
