The Senate filibuster rule is one of the last remaining vestiges of republican – note the small “r” – government in Washington. It was intended as a safeguard, as a stumbling block against the passions of the moment, to ensure a more measured approach to legislation from America’s upper house of the legislature. It was intended to make sure the minority, too, had a voice.
Democrats have been shouting about getting rid of the filibuster for years, claiming it’s “non-democratic.” In this narrow respect, they are right; it’s non-democratic, and that’s by design, because our nation is not a democracy; it is a constitutional republic. But now, there are a lot of voices on the right calling for this nuclear option, not the least of which is President Trump.

The President writes (paragraph breaks added):
The Democrats are far more likely to win the Midterms, and the next Presidential Election, if we don’t do the Termination of the Filibuster (The Nuclear Option!), because it will be impossible for Republicans to get Common Sense Policies done with these Crazed Democrat Lunatics being able to block everything by withholding their votes. FOR THREE YEARS, NOTHING WILL BE PASSED, AND REPUBLICANS WILL BE BLAMED. Elections, including the Midterms, will be rightfully brutal.
He has a point. There’s a time to go for broke, and this may be it. The Democrats have no intention of moderating. They have no moderates left in office, except for Senator John Fetterman (D-PA), who is their last remaining voice of reason in Congress. They have no presidential candidates; who can they run? Governor Gavin Newsom, with his record of failure in California? Kamala Harris, who can’t string together a coherent sentence if you spot her two nouns and a conjunction? JB Pritzker, who, if he took lessons and practiced very hard in front of a mirror every day between now and the 2028 elections, might be able to work his way up to boring?
If we do terminate the Filibuster, we will get EVERYTHING approved, like no Congress in History. We will have FAIR, FREE, and SAFE Elections, No Men in Women’s Sports or Transgender for Everybody, Strong Borders, Major Tax and Energy Cuts, and will secure our Second Amendment, which the Democrats will also terminate, IMMEDIATELY. If we don’t do it, they are far more likely to do well in the upcoming Elections, which would mean a PACKED Supreme Court, 2 more States and 4 more Democrat Senators (D.C. and Puerto Rico), and 8 more Electoral Votes.
And we’ll be handing the Democrats carte blanche next time they have control as well. But then, it’s a safe bet they will vote that for themselves in any case:
Remember, Republicans, they are going to end the Filibuster as soon as they get the chance We know this because they already tried, and the only two people who didn’t go along are now out of office. But they have much less chance of WINNING if we have Great Policy Wins after Wins after Wins. IN FACT, THEY WILL LOSE BIG, AND FOR A VERY LONG TIME. TERMINATE THE FILIBUSTER NOW, END THE RIDICULOUS SHUTDOWN IMMEDIATELY, AND THEN, MOST IMPORTANTLY, PASS EVERY WONDERFUL REPUBLICAN POLICY THAT WE HAVE DREAMT OF, FOR YEARS, BUT NEVER GOTTEN. WE WILL BE THE PARTY THAT CANNOT BE BEATEN – THE SMART PARTY!!!
The president refers to former Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) and former Senator Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ), who stood foursquare against nuking the filibuster – and who are both once more just private citizens.

Maybe it’s time to do this.
Those of you who have been reading my work for some time know that I’ve always been against doing away with the Senate’s last safeguard against outright mob rule. I’m beginning to come around to the idea that it’s inevitable, and as Macbeth said, “If it were done when ’tis done, then ’twere well it were done quickly.” President Trump is right about that; the current mob of Democrats, should they regain control of the Senate, will do this immediately. Better the Republicans take that advantage and press it for all they can.
None of this bodes well for the long-term survival of the country. None of this bodes well for the United States’ remaining vestiges of republican government. But maybe it’s time to deal with the near term, or we may not get a longer term.
President Trump isn’t shy about this:

Maybe the rest of us shouldn’t be, either. I’m reminded of a South Carolina politician named Benjamin F. Perry, a staunch Unionist. When South Carolina voted to secede in December of 1860, he remained opposed, but also remained loyal to his state. When speaking to a group of secessionists, he said, “You are all going to the devil – and I will go with you.”
This is where we are now. Perhaps it’s time.
Editor’s Note: The Schumer Shutdown is here. Rather than put the American people first, Chuck Schumer and the radical Democrats forced a government shutdown for healthcare for illegals. They own this.
