Trump Clashes With California Over Potential Mail-In Ballots

The Trump administration is preparing an executive order on election fraud, prompting California’s top election official to push back.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said on Tuesday that President Donald Trump is preparing an executive order on elections to address potential election fraud in California.

“It is absolutely true that there is fraud in California’s elections,” Leavitt said.

California’s Proposition 50 would allow the state Legislature to draw congressional maps instead of the independent redistricting commission that was adopted by voters in 2010. California Democrat Gov. Gavin Newsom pushed the new measure in hopes of picking up more U.S. House seats for Democrats in the 2026 congressional midterm elections.

In a Truth Social post, Trump said: “The unconstitutional redistricting vote in California is a giant scam in that the entire process, in particular voting itself, is rigged.”

Trump continued: “All ‘mail-in’ ballots where the Republicans in the state are ‘shut out,’ is under very serious legal and political review. Stay tuned.”

On Oct. 24, the Justice Department announced it would send election monitors to five California counties: Fresno, Kern, Los Angeles, Orange, and Riverside.

“They have a universal mail-in voting system, which we know is ripe for fraud, and if you want to deny that, I’m happy to provide you with the evidence for that,” Leavitt said.

She said Trump is working to address the problems in California and elsewhere.

“The White House is working on an executive order to strengthen our elections in this country and to ensure that there cannot be blatant fraud, as we’ve seen in California with their universal mail-in voting system,” Leavitt said.

California Secretary of State Shirley Weber said, “If there are irregularities, what are they?”

“Why won’t they identify them?” Weber said in a public statement. “Where exactly is this fraud? Ramblings don’t equate with fact.”

Weber said 7 million have already voted.

“The bottom line is, California elections have been validated by the courts,” Weber said. “California voters will not be deceived by someone who consistently makes desperate, unsubstantiated attempts to dissuade Americans from participating in our democracy.”
