I had to read this twice out of disbelief. From Newsweek,

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has accused a staff member from Senator Tammy Duckworth’s office of falsely claiming to be an attorney to secure the release of a detained migrant in federal custody.
DHS alleged that a staff member from Duckworth’s office claimed to be the lawyer of a 40-year-old undocumented immigrant who had been deported to Mexico four times and had a DUI conviction.
[DHS] also alleged that the individual falsified an official DHS form to obtain the detainee’s release.
So, the staffer (allegedly) impersonated a lawyer and falsified a federal document. There must be at least three felonies in that last sentence.

The incident took place on October 29 at an ICE field office in St. Louis, Illinois, according to a letter reviewed by Newsweek that was sent by ICE Acting Director Todd Lyons to Duckworth.
The staffer, identified as Edward York, is listed publicly as a Constituent Outreach Coordinator in Duckworth’s office, ICE said. The letter alleges that York entered the facility and falsely represented himself as the attorney for detainee Jose Isemal Ayuzo Sandoval.
Duckworth, of course, is a U.S. Senator representing Illinois. I have not seen any response issued from Duckworth’s office.

Judge orders release of hundreds arrested in Illinois immigration crackdown
I carefully track such matters in Minnesota’s federal court. In every instance where a federal judge has ordered an ICE detainee released, it was on a case-by-case basis, where both sides presented the merits of the individual case.
US District Judge Jeffrey Cummings on Wednesday morning sided with attorneys from the National Immigrant Justice Center and the ACLU. The plaintiffs alleged more than 3,000 people were arrested between June and October in “Operation Midway Blitz.”
Cummings is a Biden appointee and a former lawyer for ACORN. He has released 615 illegal aliens in a single order.
Judge Cummings stated he would allow their release on a $1,500 bond and enrollment in Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Alternatives to Detention program, which can include electronic monitoring, pending the outcome of immigration proceedings.
I had thought that the ATD program had been discontinued under President Trump.
The entire point of the Operation Midway Blitz was that thousands of illegal immigrants were not showing up for their “immigration proceedings,” and had to be tracked down, one at a time.
Now this rogue Democrat judge has re-released them into the wind, putting ICE back at square one.
