Meghan Markle is said to be giving “Kim Kardashian energy” with her latest shock decision to return to acting after eight years, a royal expert has claimed. The Duchess of Sussex was spotted on set in Los Angeles, filming a movie that will feature other Hollywood A-listers.
Meghan is set to play herself in Jason Orley’s Close Personal Friends, which boasts Lily Collins, Brie Larson, Jack Quaid — son of Meg Ryan and Dennis Quaid — and Brit Henry Golding among its cast. The film is about two couples—one famous and one not—who meet in Santa Barbara and become fast friends, and Meghan is reportedly going to make a cameo appearance.
Now, according to a royal expert, Meghan’s move is very similar to that of Kim Kardashian, who has also played herself in various films and television shows.
US-based royal commentator Kinsey Schofield told The Sun: “This is giving Kardashian energy. Kim Kardashian playing herself in cameos and films and television shows, before moving into scripted [films], with Tyler Perry, Lili’s godfather.”
The Duchess, who previously had an acting career in Hollywood, has undertaken various business excursions since she stepped down from the Royal Family in 2020.
This year alone, she launched a new lifestyle brand, As Ever, released two seasons of With Love, Meghan on Netflix and debuted her second podcast series, Confessions of a Female Founder.
Royal commentator Charlie Rae said that Meghan will continue her different ventures in the future.
He told the outlet: “She’ll come up with some other plan, some other Netflix programme or some other taste of jam somewhere. I mean, she’ll continue to do all this.
“I don’t think she’s actually got a real purpose in the sense of a career.”
He added: “She could have had a career, a very good career, in my view, here within the Royal Family, but she chose not to have that.
“Now she’s doing all sorts of things, bit parts in a film, making jam, you know, Christmas specials about whatever.
“Still trying to protect why she’s doing it, her children’s images, taking them down if they suddenly see, you know, an ear of one of the children.
“You know, I think she’s just going to carry on doing these bits and bobs stuff for which she will be paid handsomely.
“And I would probably like to know just how much money she’s getting for whatever time she spends on screen in this film. I’m sure it’s quite a bit.”
