You could be owed a £290 refund from Sky TV.
Sky has confirmed plans to discontinue a one-of-its-kind accessory designed to make “your TV much more than just a TV” barely two-and-a-half years after its initial launch, with subscribers owed a full refund.
Dubbed Sky Live, this interactive entertainment device snapped to the top of Sky Glass via magnets and added a 12MP HDR-capable camera with a 106° wide field of view to the telly. This could be used for guided workouts, interactive Nintendo Wii-like games, and video calls with other Sky Glass owners to chat and watch the same television series, blockbuster films, or sports fixtures with people anywhere in the UK.

Speaking when Sky Live was announced in June 2023, Sky Global Chief Product Officer Fraser Stirling said: “We surprised everyone when we launched our streaming TV, Sky Glass, in 2021.
“Now we’re doing it again. Sky Live makes your TV much more than just a TV, by introducing new entertainment experiences for the heart of your home.
“Get active with motion control games, work out with body tracking technology, video call on the big screen and watch TV with loved ones – even from afar. And this is just the start. With our powerful Entertainment OS ecosystem, it will keep getting better with every update.”
Sky added several additional interactive experiences to Sky Live post-launch, including Peppa Pig: Jump & Giggle, Sudoku, Word Ladder, and Make Tracks.
Sky didn’t charge to download any of these apps or games, everything was included as part of the £290 price tag. Sky Live was also available as a £6 per month add-on to your subscription.

Sky Stream + Essential TV
Starting from December 4, Sky Live will stop working. From that date, you won’t be able to access any of the exclusive Sky Live experiences, including a big screen version of Fruit Ninja that lets you slice with gestures in front of the television, a newly-launched version of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?, and the Mvmnt app that used a live feed from the camera to real-time, on-screen feedback to improve your form as you follow the exercises.

Perhaps the writing was on the wall for Sky Live. While the newest Sky Glass Gen 2 and Sky Glass Air models, launched earlier this year, are compatible with the accessory, Sky decided not to launch a second-generation camera accessory with these new all-in-one Smart TVs or integrate the features into these televisions.
The decision to discontinue Sky Live comes hot on the heels of Sky cutting around 600 positions in its UK offices, with the redundancies believed to have mostly affected technology teams. It’s the second round of redundancies at the company, with teams of Sky satellite engineers dropped from the British broadcaster.

A spokesperson for Sky TV said: “Innovation has always been at the heart of Sky. This year we’ve expanded our Sky Glass range to offer more choice, launched the UK’s fastest broadband speeds from any major provider, and continued to invest in making the TV experience even better.
“Sky Live was part of that journey, and we’re proud of the ambition behind it. It’s given us valuable learnings that are helping to shape the future of our products. The most popular feature was gaming, which is why we’ve continued to bring even more games to Sky Glass and Sky Stream, with something for everyone in the family, including Who Wants To Be A Millionaire.
“We’re focusing our investment where it matters most to customers — faster, simpler products, unbeatable content and brilliant service. Customers who purchased Sky Live will be refunded.”
If you’ve been paying for Sky Live with a £6 monthly fee, the broadcaster will cancel whatever is left on your loan agreement and refund everything that’s already been paid. There’s no need to send the Sky Live camera back to unlock your refund, Sky is happy for you to hold onto the accessory. Unfortunately, it’ll be completely useless from December 4 onwards, so you won’t be able to continue playing Fruit Ninja or Peppa Pig on the gadget.
If you fancy getting rid of it, you can request a pre-paid Royal Mail label from Sky to send it back. Alternatively, you can take it to your local recycling centre to dispose of it yourself. Just be aware that refunds are only available if you bought the accessory directly from Sky — anyone who picked one up second-hand won’t be eligible.
