Lidl celebrates 1,000th store opening with a ‘delicious’ Christmas freebie

Lidl is marking a major milestone with a sweet festive treat for British shoppers. To celebrate the opening of its 1,000th UK store in East Grinstead, Sussex, the supermarket will give away 1,000 free gingerbread store kits.

The build-it-yourself kits, “made entirely out of gingerbread and a pinch of Christmas magic”, let families create their own miniature Lidl store at home this festive season.

Each kit is modelled on the new Sussex location and comes completely free. Shoppers can claim theirs from 10am online on Thursday, November 27, while stocks last.

The festive kits are packed with everything needed to create a tasty Lidl masterpiece.

Each one contains handmade gingerbread panels and smooth icing to construct the miniature store.

But that’s not all – the kit comes with candy cane bollards to place outside, edible Lidl billboards to display, and charming chocolate decorations to complete the scene, all inspired by the actual East Grinstead store design.

The supermarket hopes to facilitate Christmas family fun by allowing them to assemble their own edible version of the landmark location.

Offering select shoppers a festive surprise, 10 of these gingerbread kits contain £100 Lidl Plus vouchers tucked inside as gift-wrapped treats.

Lucky winners will discover this bonus when they open their kits, giving them a fantastic boost ahead of the busy Christmas shopping period.

In exciting news for Sussex locals, Lidl’s East Grinstead store itself will feature a larger gingerbread version on display throughout the festive season, allowing visitors to admire all the “deliciously intricate” details up close.

It’s a wonderful thank you from Lidl to customers who’ve supported the retailer on its journey to the 1,000-store milestone.

Sussex-based gingerbread expert Fay Millar designed and handcrafted these exclusive kits for Lidl.

To claim their free kit, shoppers can go onto the Lidl site online at 10am on Thursday, November 27, and with only 1,000 available, they’re sure to go quickly.

They’ll be gifted on a first-come, first-served basis, so festive fans will need to be ready when the website goes live.

“Let the decorating begin!” Lidl concluded.

Marketing Director at Lidl GB, Joanna Gomer, said: “Reaching our 1,000th UK store is a huge milestone for Lidl, and we want to celebrate in a way that everyone across the country can enjoy.

“Our Gingerbread houses have been a customer favourite, so we mixed things up a bit by creating a special kit that not only showcases our new East Grinstead store, but also captures the fun and festive spirit of the season.”

Lidl is spreading an important message this Christmas with its brand-new festive advert and return of a popular holiday scheme.

The annual Toy Bank initiative, which sees thousands of toys donated to children who might not otherwise receive them at Christmas, reminds us that the season is less about “me” and more about “us”.

The scheme will welcome donations of new and unopened toys, games, puzzles, books, and arts and crafts materials until December 15.
