Blaze rips through student halls as dozens evacuated from residence

A fire tore through a halls of residence at the University of Warwick as dozens of students were evacuated.

Emergency services rushed to the blaze at the Arthur Vick 1 block at around 9pm on Wednesday, November 19.


The university, based in Coventry, confirmed no injuries had been reported.

It said all students were evacuated and given help to find emergency accommodation.

“All students are safe and have been temporarily relocated,” a statement from the university read.

“Wellbeing services are providing support to those affected.

“The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental and the building will be inspected later this morning.”

Footage posted to social media shows huge orange flames coming from the building as students looked on.

Fire engines could also be seen parked up outside the student accommodation.

West Midlands Fire Service said it had sent eight crews to the scene.

The fire service is expected to issue a full statement on the incident this morning.

The Arthur Vick building houses almost 400 single bedrooms, according to the university’s website.
