Among Donald Trump’s contributions to our public life is the revelation that a politician can, after all, pursue a defamation case successfully. Of course, it can happen only in extreme circumstances, but Trump Derangement Syndrome frequently gives rise to extreme circumstances. And Trump’s haters can’t seem to learn from experience.
Thus we have the latest outrage from The View, a television program on which a group of harridans shriek DNC talking points:
ABC News may soon be facing down another costly defamation suit from President Trump. On Thursday’s edition of The View, moderator Joy Behar proclaimed that it was “obvious” that Trump was a pedophile in league with convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, and took part in the crimes the latter was convicted of.
***
BEHAR: But isn’t it obvious he was — that Trump was involved with Epstein?! I mean —SUNNY HOSTIN: He’s mentioned over a thousand times.
Epstein mentioned Trump in emails a number of times because he hated Trump, apparently because Trump barred him from being a guest at Mar-a-Lago.
BEHAR: There are more pictures with Epstein than pictures of Kim Kardashian of herself!
HOSTIN: Yes.
ALYSSA FARAH GRIFFIN: Right.
HOSTIN: Correct.
“How many more things do we have to see before people believe that he was involved with Epstein?!” Behar yelled.
So here we have the View shrews, specifically Joy Behar, accusing President Trump of being a pedophile “involved with” the convicted criminal, Jeffrey Epstein. And saying this in the context of the disclosure of thousands of emails that proved the exact opposite.
On paper, it is hard to imagine a clearer case of defamation. Behar’s only defense would be the supposition that it is open season on Donald Trump–liberals can say anything they want about him, without recourse, because we all hate him, right? But that is not, technically speaking, the law.
Ms. Behar may be surprised to find herself in a court in Florida where neither the judge nor the jury hates Donald Trump; not enough, anyway, to cause them to disregard the law. And then it will be time for ABC to, once again, get out the checkbook to fund one of President Trump’s favorite charities.
