Things were already heating up for Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz.
First, the reports about the fraud scandal went viral nationally. Then the scope of the scandal was much broader than had been thought.
Now it sounds like investigations are going into overdrive, and looking at Tim Walz himself as well.
A powerful US House committee and the Treasury Department both launched investigations into Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz’s involvement in a “massive fraud” scheme that involved Somali immigrants bilking more than $1 billion from taxpayers, they revealed Monday.
House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) told The Post that his panel “will conduct a thorough investigation into Governor Walz’s failure to safeguard taxpayer dollars” as a result.
“Minnesota Governor Tim Walz was warned about massive fraud in a pandemic food-aid program for children, yet he failed to act. Instead, whistleblowers who raised concerns faced retaliation,” Comer said.
A whistleblower account that claimed to represent hundreds of Minnesota Department of Human Services employees created a furor and went viral nationally after it alleged Walz was “100% responsible” and there was systemic retaliation, including “monitoring, threats, repression.” They also stated that they informed Kamala Harris and the DNC, but were ignored.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced that the Treasury was investigating “allegations that under the feckless mismanagement of the Biden Administration and Governor Tim Walz, hardworking Minnesotans’ tax dollars may have been diverted to the terrorist organization Al-Shabaab.”
The ploy, according to prosecutors, involved funneling money from state social services coffers — including at the Department of Human Services and Department of Education — to the nonprofit Feeding Our Future and other organizations to ostensibly feed school children.
Instead, their “depraved and brazen” plot used the funds to splurge on the lavish lifestyles of the nonprofit’s workers — including for brand new fancy cars and real estate holdings as far away as Turkey and Kenya — between April 2020 and January 2022, prosecutors said.
Walz appeared on Meet the Press on Sunday. He claimed responsibility for putting people in jail, deflected from the fraud question to President Donald Trump, saying bizarre things like it wasn’t only Somalis (alright, Tim, how many folks were involved?), and there was a “difference between fraud and corruption.”
Walz also accused Trump of being “unwell” and demanded he release his MRI, which takes some nerve given all the questions swirling about the fraud.

This has allegedly been going on for some time, and it’s a lot to unwind. But thankfully, finally, it’s getting the national attention it needed to get, and hopefully, everyone involved will be held accountable.
