In Interior Secretary Doug Burgum and Energy Secretary Chris Wright, the Trump administration has an unparalleled degree of energy expertise at the helm. They are engineering the administration’s abandonment of the Green New Deal in favor of reliable, affordable energy. Wright is one of the country’s top energy experts, and, having discussed energy issues with Burgum, I can attest that the former Governor of North Dakota is extraordinarily knowledgeable as well. Energy policy is perhaps second only to illegal immigration as a signature strength of the Trump administration.
Yesterday Burgum tweeted a graphic that American Experiment published last year. It illustrates how wind and solar produce electricity only episodically, requiring enough natural gas capacity to run the grid at all times. Together, these sources equal (at best) at great cost, what is inexpensively achieved with coal.
The graphic comes from a long post at AmericanExperiment.org titled “Green-plating™ the grid: How utilities exploit the ‘energy transition’ to rake in record profits.” There is much, much more information at the link:
Wind & solar only work part time, gas baseload is the backbone that keeps intelligence factories running. The result? Intelligence factories require 2 power sources–renewables when they work, baseload when they don’t. It’s inefficient, irresponsible & we can do better than this⬇️ pic.twitter.com/SxKWPRsCWP
