Tsunami warning issued after major magnitude 7.6 tremor strikes off coast

A major magnitude 7.6 earthquake has struck off the coast of Japan, the country’s meteorological agency and the USGS have said.

Waves as high as three metres (10 feet) could hit Japan’s northeastern coast after an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 7.6 occurred offshore on Monday.
