Expert pinpoints 2 conditions before Meghan heals her rift with her dad | Royal | News

Meghan Markle will need two major things to happen before she tries to reconcile with her dad, Thomas Markle, an expert has claimed. The 81-year-old, who now resides in the Philippines, was rushed to hospital earlier this month after falling seriously ill at home.

Mr Markle had to have his lower leg and foot amputated, with him now having left intensive care but still remaining in hospital. Meghan is said to have tried to get in contact with her dad and wrote a letter to him earlier this week.

The former working royal and her estranged father, who are known to have previously had a close relationship, have not been on speaking terms since 2018.

Former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond has told the Mirror: “As I have often said, families are complicated. None of us truly knows what has gone on between Meghan and her father, but it is a very sad situation when a daughter cannot simply pick up the phone to her dad.

“It seems she has now contacted him by letter, and I’m sure that must be a great comfort to him as he lies in his hospital bed. But the Philippines is a long way away from Montecito. And, at the moment, it seems unlikely that Meghan is about to jump on a plane.”

Claiming that Meghan is “wary” of her dad and half-brother Thomas Markle Jr, who have both spoken out about the former actress, Ms Bond added that there would need to be “a lot of trust and reassurance” when it comes to Meghan and her father.

Ms Bond said: “So there would have to be a lot of trust and reassurance before any meeting.”

As well as having not seen his youngest daughter in a number of years, Mr Markle has also never met Prince Harry, 41, or his grandchildren, Prince Archie, six, and Princess Lilibet, four.

Mr Markle has previously spoke about his wish to reconcile with his daughter, saying that he has “never stopped loving her”.
