If It’s Christmas Time… | Power Line

…that means that traditional Christmas markets have been set up across Europe. And if there are Christmas markets, terrorist attacks are to be expected:

German police have arrested five men in connection with an alleged Islamist terror plot to attack a Christmas market in southern Bavaria.

According to the Bild newspaper, three Moroccans aged 22, 28, and 30 were arrested alongside a 37-year-old Syrian and a 56-year-old Egyptian suspected of planning to use a vehicle to attack people at a Christmas market in the town of Dingolfing.

Impressive demographic diversity! I wonder what the common denominator could be.

The paper, citing sources within the Bavarian State Office for the Protection of the Constitution (LfV), reported that the Egyptian man is believed to have been a mosque prayer leader. He is accused of recruiting the three Moroccans to carry out an attack on the nearby Christmas market.

While I don’t suppose it is impossible, it is hard to imagine a minister, priest or rabbi organizing a terrorist attack on Muslims. There seems to be a basic asymmetry here.

Many Christmas markets have been canceled this year, as authorities fear attacks like this one. In a very real sense, Islamic terrorists and would-be terrorists are a kind of advance guard that speed the de-Christianization of Europe on behalf of their co-religionists–many of whom, as far as one can tell, don’t particularly disapprove of the terrorists’ tactics. So plots like the one that was broken up here succeed, even when they fail.
