A huge crash on the M61 has sparked four miles of traffic on the major UK motorway during the morning rush hour, with drivers warned to expect “long delays”. National Highways wrote on X: “Lane 3 (of 3) is closed in both directions on the #M61 in #Lancashire between J6 (#Bolton) and J8 (#Chorley) due to a collision.
“Emergency services are on scene, and recovery has been arranged. There’s a 25-minute delay northbound and 4 miles of congestion. Traffic service Inrix said: “All traffic is being temporarily held and stationary traffic due to an accident on M61 Northbound from J6 A6027 De Havilland Way (Horwich) to J8 A674 Millennium Way (Chorley). All traffic stopped at around 07:30.” In a new update, it added: “Long delays and one lane closed due to accident on M61 in both directions from J6 A6027 De Havilland Way (Horwich) to J8 A674 Millennium Way (Chorley). Lane three (of three) in both directions after northbound was blocked for around 40 minutes.”
