Donald Trump poses for White House Christmas portrait alongside wife Melania

US President Donald Trump has released his Christmas portrait alongside his wife Melania.

Mr Trump was snapped wearing a classic black tuxedo while standing in the White House’s Cross Hall.

The First Lady, who was holding her husband’s hand, was wearing a matching black maxi dress.

Melania also combined two pieces of jewellery with her outfit, including a diamond bracelet and pair of princess-cut stone earrings.

The 55-year-old appears to be wearing the same diamond stud earrings for Mr Trump’s first inauguration in 2017.

Mr Trump, who did not crack a smile, posed with his wife for the official Christmas portrait on December 7.

“Merry Christmas from President Donald J Trump and First Lady Melania Trump,” the White House said.

The US flag appears to the left of Mr Trump, while the Seal of the President features to the right of Mrs Trump.

Festive decorations were also strewn across Cross Hall, including two Christmas trees.

Fir garlands frame the doorway behind the US President and First Lady, with the decoration draped thickly and woven with warm white string lights.

The White House has also revealed the Trumps festive decorations of choice, including Lego portraits of the 47th US President and former Commander-in-Chief George Washington in the Green Room.

Photos released by earlier this month showed a gingerbread White House in the State Dining Room and wreaths hanging from the South Portico.

A total of 75 wreaths have been put up throughout the White House, alongside 50 Christmas trees.

More than 25,000 feet of ribbon have also been used as part of Mr Trump’s festive decorations.

Before the White House released its festive snap of the President, Mr Trump signed an executive order giving some extra time off to federal workers around the upcoming holidays.

Mr Trump made Christmas Eve and Boxing Day federal holidays, extending the existing holiday period into an extra-long weekend.

However, Mr Trump has also been using festive themes in his ongoing push to deport illegal immigrants.

An AI-generated image was shared by Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) that appeared to show Father Christmas working as an ICE agent.

The video, in which an imposing Santa Claus is seen wearing a bulletproof vest and carrying weapons, urges undocumented immigrants to leave the country voluntarily.

He is later shown detaining migrants on a street alongside other officers, processing one individual at an immigration facility and escorting him onto a plane for deportation.
