Musician Who Cancelled Kennedy Center Performance Over Trump Name Finds Out Actions Have Consequences – RedState

We reported how a Christmas Eve jazz concert that was supposed to be held at the Trump Kennedy Center was cancelled. Musician Chuck Redd, who has hosted the concert for the last several years, said he cancelled the concert because of the Trump name going up on the building.

Now Redd is finding out that actions have consequences.

The Center’s president, Richard Grenell, notified Redd that the Center intends to seek damages against him for pulling out for “partisan political reasons.”

“Your decision to withdraw at the last moment — explicitly in response to the Center’s recent renaming, which honors President Trump’s extraordinary efforts to save this national treasure — is classic intolerance and very costly to a non-profit Arts institution,” Grenell wrote.

“Regrettably, your action surrenders to the sad bullying tactics employed by certain elements on the left, who have sought to intimidate artists into boycotting performances at our national cultural center,” he added.

Grenell additionally got in a bit of a dig at Redd in the process, saying Redd’s event had been “lagging considerably behind our other Christmas and holiday offerings” and the “contrast” was “drastic.”

“The most avant-garde and well-regarded performers in your genre will still perform regularly, and unlike you, they’ll do it to sold out crowds regardless of their political leanings,” Grenell continued.

The Trump-Kennedy Center president further claimed that Redd’s “dismal ticket sales and lack of donor support” combined with the eleventh-hour cancellation “has cost us considerably.”

“This is your official notice that we will seek $1 million in damages from you for this political stunt.”

Redd was also ripped by another Kennedy Center official.

“Any artist cancelling their show at the Trump Kennedy Center over political differences isn’t courageous or principled — they are selfish, intolerant, and have failed to meet the basic duty of a public artist: to perform for all people,” Trump-Kennedy Center Vice President of Public Relations Roma Daravi told The Post.

Grenell posted on X that he wouldn’t let this go by without consequences: “The Arts are for everyone – and the Left is mad about it.”

Despite tantrums from the left, as we reported, the Trump Kennedy Center is continuing to put on great events, including the Kennedy Center Honors event. They’re also bringing in a lot of donations to help restore the building. Where were some of these people who are now upset when the building was falling into disrepair?

So folks on the left can keep tossing fits, but it isn’t going to get them anywhere.

The show will go on, with or without them.
