Prince Harry may have usually appeared smiling and happy around fans during his time as a working royal, but it turns out this wasn’t always the case. While on the royal stage, the Duke of Sussex always appeared bright and cheery but there was a moment in a restaurant away from the spotlight which presented Harry in a very different light.
This moment was in 2013 when Harry was out enjoying a lunch with his former girlfriend, Cressida Bonas, and her family in Kidlington. The Prince and her family were able to eat towards the back of the restaurant, with limited people able to see them, and enjoy their meal in peace.
It was only afterwards, when they had finished eating, that the Duke, 41, was approached by an elderly man who had one small request.
According to royal author and expert Tina Brown, Harry was asked by the man for a photograph for his unwell wife, which Harry did not respond to pleasantly.
Recalling the incident in her book The Palace Papers, Tina Brown wrote that the man said to Harry, “Oh, sir, so sorry, I know it’s Christmas time, but could I just take a photograph to give to my wife who isn’t well?”
Ms Brown continued: “And so Cressida opened her mouth and said: ‘Oh, of course.’ And Harry said: ‘Get out of my way’ and went bright red in the face and stormed off in a huff.”
Harry or Cressida have never mentioned the incident, which occurred out of the spotlight.
