Charlie Kirk emerged as the most searched name on Google in the UK in 2025, based on the company’s annual round-up of search trends. The 31-year-old founder of Turning Point USA, who was shot dead while addressing an audience at a college campus in Utah, also became the most-viewed biography on Wikipedia worldwide.
The right-wing political activist and Trump ally was killed on September 10 while speaking at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. Kirk, a leading figure in the MAGA movement, was shot shortly after the event began. About 3,000 people were in attendance. He was struck by a single gunshot to the neck fired from a nearby rooftop and was rushed to a local hospital, where he later died. Police launched a large manhunt following the attack, which ended the next day when Tyler James Robinson, 22, handed himself in to the local sheriff.
The search term was followed in second place by Ozzy Osbourne, The Daily Mail reported. The Black Sabbath singer died in July at the age of 76 after living with Parkinson’s disease. Third on the list was the notorious US serial killer Ed Gein, whose brutal crimes were revisited in the hit Netflix drama Monster.
The fourth most searched topic was Adolescence, another hugely successful series from the streaming platform that explored the risks posed by misogyny and violence towards women and girls. Rounding out the top five was the phrase “snow warning”, reflecting heightened public interest in weather alerts during the winter period.
