Free Speech Union hacked by ‘pro-trans militants that encourages supporters to take direct action against MPs’

The Free Speech Union has been hit by a cyberattack launched by a “militantly pro-trans ‘direct action’ organisation”.

Behind the hack was Bash Back, a group which “campaigns for trans rights via openly criminal means”, including targeting MPs.

In a statement, the FSU announced it had been forced to temporarily disable its website.

“We’ve had to temporarily disable our website following a cyber attack by a militant pro-trans organisation that openly boasts about breaking the law and encourages its supporters to steal hammers and take ‘direct action’ against members of parliament,” it read.

“We’ve launched a donations page on Stripe, a secure payment processor, to cover the cost of responding to this attack (beyond what is covered by insurance) and bringing the perpetrators to justice. Any donations would be hugely appreciated,” the statement added.

Detailed in an email seen by GB News, Bash Back is said to have been able to steal information from the FSU’s website, which was then posted on the group’s own site.

However, the attack failed to stop the FSU’s ability to receive donations and register new members.

“I assume the reason the FSU has been targeted is that we’ve defended hundreds of gender critical feminists who’ve got into trouble for expressing their belief in the biological reality of sex,” the email read.

Bash Back describes itself as a “trans-led direct action project focused on total transgender liberation”.

They claim their activism is to demonstrate that “we cannot be silenced, we cannot be beaten down, and we are not afraid to stand our ground”.

In Bash Back’s online manifesto, they identify the targets of their attacks as: “Organisations that promote transphobic rhetoric”.

These include those “banning hormones and puberty blockers, to confining us to or defining us out of categories of woman and man, to promoting conversion therapy and facilitating hideous harassment campaigns”.

“All of our targets have blood on their hands. We refuse to let them wash it off in peace. Welcome to a new era of trans rage,” the group warns.

Bash Back’s first public attack took place in July, when it vandalised Health Secretary Wes Streeting’s constituency office.

They daubed the Ilford North premises with the words “child killer” and smashed windows.

The incident followed the decision to ban puberty blockers for children on the advice of medical experts and the Cass Review into gender identity services.

Lord Young, the founder of the Free Speech Union, had previously commissioned an independent security briefing into Bash Back.

The report suggested British intelligence agencies are monitoring the activities of the activist network.

A Government spokesman previously condemned the threats issued by Bash Back.

They said: “Threats, harassment, and vandalism are not only cowardly, they’re criminal and we will pursue anyone who targets politicians and their staff in this way, with the full force of the law.

“The rhetoric from this group is dangerous and only seeks to distract from our work to improve the lives of trans people.”
