A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Police said: “Officers searching for missing woman Eileen have today (11 January) sadly found a body at Arbourthorne Pond in Sheffield.

“While formal identification is yet to take place, officers believe it to be that of Eileen.

“Her family has been informed and is being supported by officers at this time. Thank you to everyone who shared our appeal.”

The 60-year-old woman was last seen in the Errington Avenue area of Arbourthorne between 4pm and 5pm on Saturday, January 10.

Speaking about the large police presence in the area before the force issued a statement sharing news of the tragic discovery, a local resident claimed emergency crews “cut through ice” while at the pond.

Leo told Yorkshire Live: “There was loads and loads of police here. They pulled someone out of the pond but I couldn’t see how they had fallen in. They cut through the ice.

“Kids have been walking on it and cycling on it for the last couple of days. It’s really sad”
