Met Office names 8 areas facing risk of freezing disruption before Wednesday – full list | Weather | News

The Met Office has issued yellow weather warnings for eight areas across the UK this week. The warning for ice is in place from 7pm tonight (January 12) to 10am tomorrow (January 8).

The national forecaster said that a combination of clear spells and light winds will allow road temperatures to fall below freezing on Monday evening across northern Scotland, continuing overnight and into Tuesday morning. This will allow icy stretches to form on untreated surfaces. The public has been advised to take extra care and be aware of the risk of some minor travel disruption.

The Met Office said to keep yourself and your family safe by leaving the house five minutes earlier than normal to ensure you don’t need to rush, reducing the risk of accidents, slips and falls.

If you need to make a journey on foot or by bike, the national forecaster said to try to use pavements along main roads, which are likely to be less slippery.

Give yourself the best chance of avoiding delays by checking road conditions if driving, or bus and train timetables, and amending your travel plans if necessary.
